gregers Posted June 25, 2011 Report Posted June 25, 2011 welcome to the forum.there is plenty of info on this on the forum. which 1 is the remote key?im assuming you have been given 1 remote and 1 standard key?if both remotes then it sounds like neither have been programed to the central locking. the 1 that doesnt start the car(MAY HAVE THE PATS CHIP MISSING) take a look in the faqs found in the thec section of the forum,on how to reprogram keys to central locking. hth. whitescarf1 Posted June 30, 2011 Author Report Posted June 30, 2011 Hi thanks for the info. Im getting there. Yes both keys are remote two button. I have now got to the stgee where both lock the car on remote. One starts the car but the other will not. Had a go with the info from the manual and it did something as the car turned over with the spare and ran for about two seconds. Any ideas where I go from here. All replies gratfuly recieved as Im going nuts Fred Quote
SilverBeast Posted June 30, 2011 Report Posted June 30, 2011 This sound very much like your PATS transponder is missing from your key as gregers said. I recall reading elsewhere on the forums the same symptoms (here Same Problem). I suggest you take both keys apart (as if changing the battery) and compare them. I would do this on a large flat surface if I was you as I understand the chips can fall out easily. If you have changed a battery recently in one of the remotes (or someone else did before you got it) then it may have fallen out then. This tells you how to reprogram the PATS chips, but unfortunately you need two working keys, so it's only useful to add a third etc MKII PATS Key Programming I also read somewhere that some keycutters can "clone" the PATS chip, so assuming you can get another one (from ebay?) then they could do that. I have also heard that VAG-COM can do this. You could also get this done by a Fraud garage, but may need a mortgage! Good Luck Quote
